Limassol Chess Academy

Founder & Head Trainer

Woman Fide Master (WFM) | FIDE Lead Senior Instructor

Maria Anna Stefanidi is the heart and soul behind Shah Mat Masters. With a chessboard in one hand and a lesson plan in the other, she has dedicated her life to education through chess.

Marianna is a certified FIDE Instructor and holds the title of Woman FIDE Master. She began her chess journey at the age of three and soon discovered that chess was not just a sport — it was a platform for expression, growth, and transformation. Over the past 20 years, Marianna has coached hundreds of students across Europe, many of whom have gone on to win national championships, earn FIDE titles, and more importantly, become responsible and thoughtful individuals.

What sets her apart is not just her chess expertise, but her pedagogical background and holistic teaching philosophy. She incorporates storytelling, psychology, humor, and mentorship in her lessons, ensuring that each child not only improves on the board but blossoms off it as well.

Marianna is regularly invited as a speaker and guest lecturer at international seminars, school development projects, and programs, where she advocates for chess in education.

Marianna is also known for her creative teaching methods — from giant inflatable chess battles and interactive shows to thematic tournaments in museums, she has redefined what a modern chess academy can look like.

She believes that every child is a King or Queen waiting to be crowned — and at Shah Mat Masters, the coronation begins.
